01
How can I register for the rally?
Registrations open about 8 weeks before the event, usually around mid-April, when the specific regulations are published.
Registration is done exclusively via an online form. Entry fees are paid directly online.
02
Participation in the rally with a foreign license: what are the requirements?
Swiss crews can participate with a national license.
For foreign crews, an international license is required to compete with FIA-category vehicles (Rally2, Rally3, Rally4, Rally5, RGT).
For national categories (FIA end-of-homologation classes) such as R2, R3T, etc., a national license is accepted provided you have a written authorization from your ASN (National Sporting Authority) allowing you to take part in our event.
An international license is also valid for the Historic Rally (VHC).
03
Coming to Switzerland with a race car
As Switzerland is not part of the European Union, certain customs formalities are required when crossing the border.
ATA Carnet required:
If you bring assistance equipment (or a foreign team does it for you), you must hold an ATA Carnet. This document declares equipment in transit only, with no intention of being sold locally.
Rental of vehicles and equipment:
Any rented race car, as well as related equipment (assistance, tents, tools, etc.), must also be declared at customs.
In summary: whether it is your own equipment or rented material, it must always be declared to avoid any issues when entering Switzerland.
04
Can I participate in the rally with my own car?
Rally safety regulations are very strict. It is therefore not possible to compete with a standard road car, except in VHRS, VMRS, and ENRS rallies in the lower average classes. Most crews today choose to rent a race car to avoid administrative procedures and the constraints of building and homologating a competition vehicle.
However, it is entirely possible to prepare your own car, provided it complies with ASS – Auto Sport Switzerland regulations. This organization, the Swiss motorsport governing body, can guide you through the steps to make your car a homologated rally vehicle. Their contact details are available on motorsport.ch.
05
How can I become a rally driver?
1. Through progressive competition
-
Take part in events such as hill climbs or slaloms.
-
Achieve 4 results within 2 years with a lower-level license (REGional license).
-
Then apply for a NATional license, which allows you to compete in rallies.
-
The REGional license is easily obtained via Auto Sport Switzerland (ASS) after a medical check.
-
You can apply for your license on the official Auto Sport Switzerland website: www.autosport.ch
06
How to become a co-driver?
The co-driver’s license (called NAV in license jargon) is open to everyone, provided you pass a medical check with your doctor.
To obtain this license, you must apply through Auto Sport Suisse (ASS) and complete the required documents.
The license has no particular prerequisites, but it is strongly advised to take a course or training before starting, such as the one organized every March by Swiss Rally Codrivers.
This very comprehensive one-day course includes both theory and practice. It is recommended for future co-drivers as well as for drivers wishing to enter the rally world.
